The world of email storage is in transition: ISPs of the world are moving toward Cloud computing. Dovecot team has reacted to the market demand and has spent the last 18 months to enhance Dovecot with Object Storage capabilities.

We are thrilled to announce that we now have an installed base of over 2.3 million email servers and a global market share of 48% of all IMAP servers according to an actual study:

http://www.openemailsurvey.org/

Every day, Billions of email messages are delivered reliably and securely to users by Dovecot servers all over the world.

„ We have been developing Dovecot since 2001 and we are really happy about how Dovecot has become such a popular and trusted core component in the world-wide communication infrastructure. Our development roadmap has always been based on our user feedback and our vital open source community has been a great support for me. Now as we have founded our company to give our customers commercial support, integration and migration services, custom components and products, we will bring Dovecot to the next level and at the same time strengthen our open source efforts“ says Timo Sirainen, Chief Architect and Founder of Dovecot OY.

About Dovecot

Dovecot is the IMAP server of choice for ISPs, Telcos and Enterprises everywhere in the world. The upcoming new Enterprise version 2.2 has new exciting features, for example the possibility to support the features of the commercial module “Dovecot Object Storage Plugin”, which allows a high-performance connection to Cloud storage systems, such as Amazon S3, Scality and CAStor from Caringo.

As we all know, Microsoft Exchange, even if it is very popular on enterprise systems, is not the most IMAP compliant server. This is causing problems with various email clients and there is demand to increase Exchange server’s compatibility with the open world and the magnitude of email clients outside Outlook.

Aalto University got their problems fixed with the Dovecot IMAP Proxy. The installation took just a few days, and now the users can use whatever email clients they want.

Siiri Sipilä,
 Account Manager
 IT infrastructure services
 Aalto University said:

„In Aalto University we provide Microsoft Exchange 2010 system as a centralized email solution. User base in the Aalto University is highly heterogeneous and supported operating systems include Linux, Microsoft Windows and Apple OSX and that is why we have several different email client software in use. The Project was completed on schedule and co-operation with Dovecot Solutions was very professional. The end result was that Pine and Thunderbird programs began to operate smoothly. Our goal was to give our users a better user experience, and I think it was achieved.”

„We created our IMAP Proxy to enable intercommunication with various IMAP servers and to increase IMAP compatibility of MS Exchange. Dovecot IMAP Proxy is a great tool for Microsoft System Integrators to help them to keep their Exchange systems to perform as expected“ says Markku kenttä, CEO of Dovecot OY.

The IMAP Compliance Test results can be examined here:
